A passion of ours

Equality in the workplace is something that has always been an important part of our working environment. Over time, we have adapted and refined our work to align with gender equality policies, which has led us to where we are today. Our equality policy started with the passion and diligence of Svanfríður Jónsdóttir, one of the owners of Center Hotels. "Equality has always been a matter of my heart", she says. Before Svanfríður started in the hotel business, she worked as a nurse. With Svanfríður's work as well as other team members, we have achieved our goal of establishing a workplace of equality and we are very proud of the results.

2020 & 2021

For two years in a row, we have proudly accepted the recognition of Jafnvægisvogin, a project created by the Women in Business Association (FKA). The recognition confirms that there is an equal salary ratio between genders in our management positions at Center Hotels. "The recognition reflects on the work we have done to ensure gender equality in our workplace and that we have both genders at the same table when it comes to recruitment and job development," says Kristófer Oliversson, co-owner of Center Hotels.

Equal pay for comparable work

We proudly received the Equal Pay Certification from BSI, being the first company in Iceland’s tourism industry to do so when the new equal pay certification law came into effect in 2018. 'With this certification, we received legal confirmation that at Center Hotels, employees in the same or comparable roles receive equal pay regardless of gender,' says Eir Arnbjarnardóttir, HR Manager at Center Hotels, who adds, 'We uphold pay equality, and our equal pay policy is part of the company’s human resource strategy. The aim of implementing it is to ensure that all employees have the same opportunities and that their work is valued on its own merits, regardless of gender.' We offer a wide range of courses, workshops, and presentations, along with general education for employees, to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to grow and thrive in their roles.
