Never mind the sheep heads and rotten shark, our unofficial national dish is actually the humble hot do and this outdoor stand in the city center is the best place in town to get one.
The stand is called "Bæjarins Bestu" which basically means "The best in town" - referring to the delicious hot dogs sold in this particular stand.
The majority of Icelanders have at some point in their lives eaten at Bæjarins Bestu, some more often than others!
The hot dog comes with bread, ketchup, sweet mustard, fried or raw onion and remolaði (a mayonnaise- based sauce). If you dare, try "Ein með öllu" which means "One with everything" and you'll get the most dreamy hot do with all the toppings.
