Lonely Planet also announced Iceland as a top summer travel destination for August in their January Issue of Lonely Planet’s monthly publication. Iceland was part of the “Perfect Trips for 2010“.

“You’ve always wanted to explore this magical, mysterious land, explore volcanoes and ice caps and bathing in hot springs? Then 2010 is your year” states Lonely Planet.

Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik was particularly recommended to travellers, described as the most perfect location to enjoy the great Icelandic summer weather on those “endless” summer evenings.

Lonely Planet is the largest travel guide and digital media publisher in the world. It has published over 500 titles in eight different languages with annual sales of six million guidebooks as well as TV programs, a magazine, mobile phone applications and websites.[1]

keðja is 6 international dance encounters that have been taking place in the Nordic-Baltic countries from 2008 to 2010. keðjaReykjavik is the last one and takes place in Reykjavik, 8th – 11th of October 2010. Previous encounters have been held in Vilnius, Lithuania, Copenhagen, Denmark, Kuopio, Finland, Oslo, Norway and Umeå, Sweden. keðja is for anyone interested in contemporary dance, how it is organized and how it works, in the Nordic-Baltic countries.

keðja is the Icelandic word for chain and is associated with the old Nordic chain dances. The name keðja symbolizes that the aim of the project is to connect, attach, encircle as well as to strengthen the already existing chains/network

Each encounter has its own dance-related theme or headline and the headline for keðjaReykjavik is “Reach Out! Content or Form?”. The main focus will be on the artistic program but closely combined with various events the mission is to show Icelandic nature, energy and city life, from different perspectives.

The 7th annual Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) will be held from September 23rd to October 3rd this year. It’s an event that draws attention from media all over the world and puts its mark on the vibrant city life during those last days of September.

Photographer, Brian Rueb has been a photographer for almost 19 years. Three years ago he decided to combine writing, which had been his side job, with photographing.

He had always been mesmerized by Iceland, the music, the people and especially the environment but had never had the chance to photograph this fascinating little island. He had wanted to write a book about his photographic journeys and in October 2009 he purchased his ticket to Iceland.

During the summer of 2010, Brian will be spending 65 days travelling around the country. And he says that if you dare, you can be a part of the experience as well.

Icelandic Tourist Board points out two travel safety assessments. On one hand there are results from the previous mentioned assessment from  tourism.review.comwhere Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Ireland are considered to be the safest countries to visit and on the other hand an assessment from opentravel.com where the most dangerous volcanoes in the world are listed but Iceland and Eyjafjallajökull are not mentioned.
